Comprehensive Cultural Plan Needed for Boosting Iran-Saudi Ties: Expert
Seyed Ali Mowjani, Iran’s former cultural attaché in India, made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that the recent rapprochement between Tehran and Riyadh shows that the two sides can take steps toward healing the previous conditions.
Iran is an important neighbor for Saudi Arabia and vice versa, he noted, hoping that the diplomatic agreement between the two sides will pave the way for more agreements in various other fields.
What matters more is developing objective plans for the expansion of economic, cultural social, and security cooperation, he stated.
Mowjani said this does not necessarily have to be done by governmental centers and institutions but sometimes individuals’ initiatives can be more effective and can promote a common language for dialogue.
With the formation of communications and links between the two peoples, the two sides will know one another better and there will be less likelihood for political ties to be harmed by certain parties, he stated.
He reiterated that in order to boost the political relations and expect them to further expand, the two countries should not limit their efforts to political agreements.

Efforts should be made to develop the relations between the two peoples, for example by bolstering art and cultural ties and facilitating trips by scholars, thinkers, artists, authors, poets, etc to the other country, he said.
Mowjani also stressed the importance of redefining common interests between Iran and Saudi Arabia in different areas of culture, politics, defense and economy.
A rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia was announced in China in March last year.
Analysts believe the rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia would have major implications for peace and stability in the West Asia region.
